NYC West Village Tasting
New York City, NY
Chef Eats visits the Big Apple.. Day 1! So I arrived in NYC and I was starving.. a couple of my friends decided to take me on a quick tour of the city (a food tour.. lol) We figured the best way to taste many different items was to not “put all of our eggs in one basket”.. so we put them in 4 baskets..
Chef Eats’ NYC West Village Tasting MenuMamoun’s Falafel
$2Bleecker Street Pizza (+Bottled Water)
$3.50Gray’s Papaya 2 Hotdogs and 1 Papaya Juice (I ate only 1)
$3.50The Magnolia Bakery Cupcake
$2
Mamoun’s Falafel
Bleecker Street Pizza
Gray’s Papaya HotdogsIt was damn good falafel.. and for just $2? Even with a little bit of a crowd, I paid and recieved my freshly made falafel right along with my change, it was that fast! For the second course.. we made our way to Bleeker Street Pizza. I ordered a tomato and cheese pizza. The slice was a nice size and it was just as I imagined, delicious! And the third item on the list, Gray’s Papaya.. the hotdogs were ordinary, just like most of the dogs in NYC.. But the Papaya juice was very very nice! Great papaya flavor.. refreshingly sweet! =) Highly recomended!
Magnolia Bakery Cupcake with green icing and sprinkles.
A Dozen Magnolias!I don’t watch Sex in the City but I was alerted by my friends that Carrie, the main character, visited the Magnolia Bakery one time and ever since then, the place has been packed to the max. So we dropped in and to my surprise, it was as good as advertised. The cake was moist and very light… The icing was sweet and fluffy.. and they even added sprinkles! lol Nicely done!
Mamoun’s Falafels, Bleecker Street Pizza, Gray’s Papaya Hotdogs, and The Magnolia Bakery’s Cupcakes. It was a wonderful “NYC West Village Tasting Menu”! =)

that hot dog looks amazing — i love sourkraut!
Yes! You’re in NYC! I hope you’re having fun here and please update more on NYC restaurants =P. Can you try my cupcakes and give me some inputs?
i thought magnolia was overrated and overpriced. the cake was NOT moist and the icign was wayyy too sweet. maybe i should give it another try.
what, no chicken and rice? haha.
mmmm falafel….
i went to a malaysian restaurant called Banana Leaf in chinatown(philadelphia) last night and found a fairly large wasp type looking book in one dish and i told the manager to just take that one dish off of the check but he comped the entire check for my friend and i… despite the lil bugger, food and service was awesome… iono random but i felt like sharing haha
pizza looks good.
That falafel looks wonderful – so does the pizza!!
Try Park Slopes… my hood
i love cupcakes! yum.

dude, you already know what i think…
Since you’re here in NYC definitely visit one of the most quintessential places for a slice of pizza in the Big Apple. Go to Difara’s Pizzeria on Avenue J (Take the Q Train to Ave. J) here in Brooklyn. Domenico DiMarco has been making the pies for 40 years using the best, freshest ingredients he can get his hands on. He starts with freshly made dough that he prepares when he arrives at 8 in the morning everyday. He also makes the tomato sauce from scratch as well. He finishes the pizza with fresh Bull mozzarella, fresh basil and Parmesano Reggiano cheese. He serves one of the best slices you’ll ever eat. He might not be the quickest pizza maker, but you can’t rush a true artist. I’m sure you will see what I mean….
woooo i really wanna try that cupcake!
Ooh, pizza! I want pizza so bad now!
(Warning: Don’t bother with a reastaurant called “Mr. Boradways” Euch!)
If you can, Try:
Lady M
Rickshaw’s dumplings.
Momofuku
And every darn thing you can get your hands on!
I was DREAMING about these cupcakes last night. Sprinkles totally make a good cupcake.
hahaha u got all the tips =P Mamoun’s Falafel awesome!
I’ve heard all about Magnolia Bakery and I want to get back to NYC to go there!!
wow, the Magnolia looks so yummy!
wow, the Magnolia looks so yummy!
you HAVE to get chicken with rice with white sauce and hot sauce on 53rd street late at night. there usually is a long line but its worth the wait.
there are a few good burger places too. try burger joint in midtown. i think it’s on 57th st. between 6th and 7th ave.
Oh, gosh! Look at the pizza, hot dog, and cupcakes!
