Anywhere, World
I’ve traveled to many different countries… been to many different cities.. eaten at some of the best restaurants, and some of the worst… worked in great kitchens, and tried many types of food.. I’ve cooked several great meals, and some bad ones too.. I guess the ultimate goal of a chef is not to win medals or awards, Maybe it’s cooking the perfect meal (in the chef’s own opinion) and having someone else proclaim it as “their best meal ever”?
Where have you been? what have you eaten? care to share? =)

my best meals are mom’s cooking. hands down.
my worst dessert was right here in houston. i told you about that one. i have yet to go back and document it for ya.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had was at this tiny cafe-hole-in-the-wall in London near St. Paul’s. I was kind of at a loss as to what to order so I picked beef curry and it was honestly one of the most delicious things I’ve ever had, really spicy and really tender meat.
the best restaurant meal i’ve ever had was at vetri in philadelphia. the only thing i didn’t like was that the tables are almost on top of each other. otherwise, it was perfection.
Best sushi ever is a place called Mr. Sushi in San Francisco. They don’t take credit cards, but the place is AMAZING.
Mexican food: Guero Canelo’s in Tucson, AZ.
Hungover and at Tan Tan’s eating Mi Wonton
The nanny for the family I lived with in Spain last summer once cooked some sort of small dumpling (gnocchi, perhaps?) in a sweet saffron and carrot sauce. That is definitely my most memorable meal. And hands down my favorite dessert is Arroz con Leche gelato found near the Sol district of Madrid (Pelazzos, I think).
Hands down, PER SE!
Or the one my japanese host mother cooked me when I went on student exchange, though tose were the days before digital cameras were around!
Aquavit in NYC – the lamb & asparagus…so good!
Kebabs (think gyro, not shish hehe) from this hole in the wall place in the Heeley green in Sheffield, England…
And I am about to go to my mom’s where we shall eat some amazing korean food!
21 Federal in Nantucket, MA
I recently started working there about 2 months ago on my externship from the CIA.
Chef Russel Jaehnig did a 6 course tasting menu for myself and my mother. It entailed:
Poached Gulf Shrimp with Persimmon Salad and Celery Consommé.
Seared Sea Scallop with Avocado Puree and Micro Cilantro Green and Lemon Compote.
Slow Roasted Portobella Mushroom and Roma Tomato with Parmesan Pudding and Basil Oil (Chef’s Signature Dish)
Tomato and Cucumber Gazpacho with Lobster, Jalapeño and Honeydew Melon Spoon
Roasted Beet with Humboldt Fog Goat Cheese and Riesling Poached Pear with Micro Green Salad
Braised Kobe Beef Cheek with Lobster Ratatouille and Russet Potato and White Truffle Gnocchi
Dessert was a Sampling of the Pastry Chef Benjamin “Woody” Woodbury’s creations including a Saffron Pavlova, Banana Soufflé, Chocolate Trio Dome (White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Mousse layered in a dome from white to dark), and Boston Cream Pie Pudding
Truly one of the greatest meals I’ve ever experienced.

I remember reading Anthony Bourdain’s conversation with Eric Ripert about what his last best meal ever would be.
I think my last meal would be a fresh steamy bowl of pho with brisket and lots of yummy basil and bean sprouts. Ahhh….
Most memorable meal: Banh Canh outside my grandparent’s home in Phuc Quoc delivered fresh every morning. Amazing…I still have dreams about it and its been nearly a decade!
This is fun! Too many to name… so for 2007 in NYC:
Most Memorable: Cafe Gray
Best BBQ: Gyu-Kaku
Best Sushi: Matsuri
Best Dessert:: The View
Best Steak: Megu
ohh i cant think of one, i really liked a white chocolate and ginger cheesecake with chilli toffee sauce from Wagamamas ,an awsome chinese resturant. it was creamy and there was a little kick from the chilli it was divine.
RASTRO TAPAS BAR AT THE ROCKLAND POWERPLANT MALL IN MAKATI CITY, PHILIPPINES! FUSION COOKING AT IT’S BEST! A MIXTURE OF CHINESE, SPANISH CUISINE!

It was a tiny restaurant on Causeway Bay called Copacabana…the ambience was fab, service relaxed and company perfect. We had white asparagus with a balsamic reduction and melted camembert, he had the snapper with pesto while i had the seafood stew and dessert creme bruile. And beers at the beach chatting, singing it was really brilliant.
The sous chef that works with me in the catering department at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia prepared this entree of spinach and cheese stuffed chicken breasts with bearnise (I think I spelled that correctly) sauce. I was in heaven!
Houston’s Hawaiian Ribeye!!! medium RARE…..lol
The Red Bar just outside Destin, Florida makes an absolutely divine panne chicken with mashed potatoes. That’s the best meal I’ve EVER had. They also have great live jazz and the atmostphere is so relaxed but still so vibrant.
My sister’s best meal is my grilled ham and home-made pimento cheese sandwich. It’s so simple, but she loves it.
i had divine ravioli at this place near versailles. apparently it was ham and cheese, but as i don’t speak french, i’m not exactly sure. it was fantastic, in any case. i don’t often eat ravioli, but in comparison to all the other i’ve had, this stuff completely beat out the rest.
[although the dish i had at la sorrisa in leonberg, germany was also excellent.]
Ba mee lad nar! w/ the duck sauce on the side!! to die for.
