Rudy’s
Austin, TX
Outside of Rudy’s
Worst BBQ in Texas!
Rudy’s is located in Austin, Texas.. the heart of BBQ Country. This place is one of the most popular BBQ joints in all of Texas. It’s a restaurant connected to a gas station. It’s like driving down the interstate and stopping by one of those places for gas and by chance finding really great food. Except it’s different because you go here for the food and happen to find gas. lol
Extra Moist Brisket
Ribs
Jalapeno Sausages!
The Extra Moist Brisket has more marbling which means more fatbut also means melt in your mouth goodness! The ribs are good, wellseasoned and full of flavor, but it’s not exactly “fall of the bones”when it comes to texture. The Jalapeno sausages were delicious and thepeppers gave it just the right kick!
Stack O’ Bread
Pint of Cream Corn
Wall of “Sause”
A stack of bread is served with the meats and more is available at the front counter if you run out. You’ll also find Rudy’s famous “Sause” at each table. It’s not a “kick you in the face” sauce, but it has a subtle, tangy flavor that meshes well with each of the meats. The cream corn is so simple and so very good! It’s sweet and rich corn flavor will have you asking for a quart to go! (and yes it comes in quarts!)
Overall, I’m always happy with Rudy’s. The only downside has to be the traffic and crowds. But its never too bad.. the wait is probably 20-30 minutes. And you gotta love their crazy handwash sink. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you go! haha

There is just too much meat in Texas. That beef brisket and the mention of marbling sickens me. LOL… cream corn looks like it’s corn in mayo. I think I’ve been in Texas too long
Haha but the earlier places you blogged about look good.
Oh man, the picture of the “Extra Moist Brisket” was very unappetizing. The ribs looked good, though.
I love the marketing bend. I love me some “bad” bbq. The corn looks quite creamy!
ryc: Yeah, funny thing that. In the summer of 2005 I’d planned an October “food vacation” to Nawlins. You can guess the rest.
haha which wushstof do you have? by the way that looks like very good eats…especially the MOIST brisket…im hungry now
I think I’ve been there.
Have you tried Thelma’s BBQ in Houston?
CREAMED CORN!!! Oooohhhh… so good. Ang and I used to buy it by the quart and finish it in one sitting.
I love their creamed corn. My son actually makes sandwiches with the creamed corn and bread from Rudy’s. I always go for the extra-moist. A lot of people don’t like Rudy’s but I have to say, it’s one place I always return to when I’m a heart attack waiting to happen!
Duuuuude….I went to school at UT Austin for 3 years, so it definitely takes me down memory lane to see an entry like this.

If you want another great BBQ joint in Austin, try Salt Lick…it’s like Rudy’s, but BYOB and all you can eat.
Also, for some AWESOME and cheap Thai food, go for Madam Mam’s on Guadalupe.
For sushi, I say Musashino’s on Anderson Ln.
For great gourmet takeout, try Portabla (on 6th street, near Lamar)…they’ve got this deli showcase where they rotate the dishes, so it’s something different almost every time I go.
Anyway, I could recommend a billion other places to eat in Austin (and in Houston too…I live here, haha), but I’d be clogging up your comment space. So I’ll stop. Happy eating!
Holy sh*t! It’s 12:15pm and I haven’t had lunch yet. Now I’m really hungry… THANKS!
hmmm do you eat everything you photograph? and if you do, how do you keep the weight off =P?
I LOVE RUDY’S! especially the cream corn. i could eat it forever. my boyfriend and i frequent the place a lot b/c the extra moist brisket is the best i’ve had so far. There’s county line if you want a good plate of baby back ribs and a good loaf of bread (w/ honey butter!). i dont fancy salt lick as much–brisket is not as moist, sausage is mediocre; only upside is byob. i think texas roadhouse has good baby back ribs..it really falls off the bone. plus, they have good bbq sauce. but definately reading about rudy’s makes me hungry!
